The Science Department is a vital part of the math/science magnet program at North Springs and offers a wide range of courses and opportunities. Magnet and non-magnet students are able to study a variety of topics in a standards-based and problem-based/project-based learning environment.

Objectives and goals from the national standards, and the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) are all incorporated into the science courses. The curriculum is designed to enhance students' understanding of science, enabling them to become environmentally, scientifically and technologically literate.

Students must earn four units of science to graduate, including biology and physical science or physics. The third credit may be chosen from environmental science, earth science, chemistry or AP Science courses. The fourth credit may be earned from any course that the student has not previously taken. The science core curriculum offers courses on three levels: regular, honors and AP.

Students in the magnet program are required to participate in North Springs Science Fair and have many clubs and competitions to enhance and enrich their learning including: environmental club, science club, science bowl and science olympiad. The department also recognizes and inducts high achieving students into the Science National Honor Society.
